Alongside the launch of Butterfly Equity, the Butterfly Equity Foundation was created based on the belief that food and food-related issues are a critical path to addressing urgent matters of community health, welfare and opportunity. The foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all people by supporting greater access to nutritious food.

Pledged profits to the Foundation

When Butterfly Equity opened its doors, it simultaneously created the Butterfly Equity Foundation. The Butterfly Equity Partners have made an ongoing pledge to contribute 10% of their net profits to the Foundation. 100% of the Foundation’s administrative costs are covered by Butterfly.

Integrated ESG into investing

Butterfly has integrated consideration of responsible investment risks and opportunities into its investment process, and is committed to the further development of ESG policies and procedures. In due diligence and monitoring for each investment, ESG is part of the investment decision procedure, including environmental, social and governance issues.

Excluded certain sectors

Deal sourcing excludes investments in weapons, gambling, tobacco and alcohol.

Supports annual ESG reporting

Butterfly monitors financial and non-financial performance of portfolio companies, including ESG issues. It expects risk management and corporate responsibility issues to be a yearly theme in each portfolio company’s board meetings, and corporate responsibility reporting to be covered once a year with the financial statements.
