Measured footprint with EMS

To do our part, we are committed to reducing our footprint through measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, developing plans to reduce them, and dynamically managing the improvements over time. In order to keep track of our results and to limit our negative impact on the planet, we use the Environmental Management System (EMS) framework. The Bolsius EMS includes a model accounting for GHG emissions of our operations, from raw material supply to delivery of the products. We measure our environmental performance in the following four main aspects: CO2 footprint, energy usage, water consumption, and waste generation.

Started collaboration with ROSE

In 2024 we have started an intensive multiple year collaboration with ROSE. Their innovative sustainability management solution helps us to further improve our sustainability data management, target setting and as such reaching our ambitious goals. Additionally, this collaboration prepares us to fully comply with upcoming (CSRD-)regulations.

Completed 2024 GHG assessment

Based on our 2024 complete GHG-assessment following GHG protocol, covering total emissions of GHG on Scope 1, 2 and 3 (upstream & downstream), is calculated to be 278.284 tCO2e (market-based). For reference, this is roughly equivalent to the total yearly emissions of an average city of 30.000 people.

Validated climate goals by SBTi

Based on our GHG-assessment results we have reviewed our footprint and work on building a 10-year decarbonization roadmap. Thanks to these assessment based on the GHG Protocol, we were able to revise our strategy and set emission reduction targets, which have been validated via the Science based target initiative (SBTi).

Assessed candle life cycles

Furthermore, we also conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) that provide details at product level; covering the whole range of candles that we produce. We are engaged in efforts to further refine this inventory, analyzing the overall impact of our products from cradle-to-grave.

Reported CleanLight savings

A few highlights: • Our climate goals have been validated by SBTi – a major milestone in our sustainability strategy. • Improved ESG data and CO₂ insights enable us to make better-informed decisions. • CleanLight saved 653 tons of CO₂e – equivalent to 5.4 million car kilometers. • €157,000 in product and financial donations for social and sustainable initiatives. • Continued focus on employee wellbeing and engagement.
