Blue Garnet has been a Certified B Corp since 2012.

Founded in 2002

In 2002, Jennifer Li Shen and Way-Ting Chen joined forces to start Blue Garnet, an expression of their original dream.

Impact and evaluation work

For five years, Blue Garnet served as the NSI’s real-time learning & evaluation partner. Working closely with NSI representatives as the Initiative funders grew in number from three to 17, Blue Garnet designed and conducted “real-time” evaluation of the Initiative, encompassing 177 grantees and $2.7 million in grants disbursed, created the Initiative’s Impact Story, refined and evolved evaluation framework and tools, and regularly synthesized and reported evaluation learnings.

Strategic planning for TreePeople

Facing an imperative to address sustainability in its local environment, TreePeople wanted a strategic plan to move its founder’s vision forward. Blue Garnet helped TreePeople articulate a specific, measurable definition of success, define organizational strategies, ground the plan in realistic financial assumptions and sustainable projections, develop a performance dashboard, and develop a case for support.

20 years of impact

In 2023, Blue Garnet celebrated 20 years of changemaking with its community. Over 20 years, it says it has impacted 1,001 leaders, 94% of clients in the past five years say they have clarity on their organization’s outcomes as a result of working with BG, and 83% say BG helped them positively impact Southern California.
