Insurance has its role to play and we’ve seen a number of insurers setting up emergency response procedures. We anticipate that for the large majority of policyholders, their claims will handled through these processes and managed as efficiently and compassionately as possible. In preparation, here are six simple steps to help you with the process: ensure safety first; minimise your loss; contact your broker or insurer; create an inventory of lost or damaged property; work with your insurer’s appointed assessors; and, in dispute, contact the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
