Asahi Beverages Sustainability Commitments
2040
Reach net zero emissions
Asahi Group says it aims to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2040. It says this target follows the SBTi Net Zero definition, which means at least 90% of emissions must be cut, with only a small share allowed to be balanced by removals. The company also says it will keep working with suppliers and partners to reduce emissions across the value chain.
2040
Use renewable electricity
Asahi Group says it plans to get 100% of its electricity from renewable sources in all operations by 2040. It says this commitment came after joining RE100, a global renewable electricity initiative. The company says it will keep speeding up renewable energy use before then.
2030
Cut packaging waste
Asahi Group says it wants all PET bottles to be made from recycled, bio-based, or similar materials by 2030. PET is a common type of plastic used for drink bottles. The company also says it wants to make all plastic containers it uses effectively reusable, recyclable, compostable, or otherwise useful by 2025, and it is working on lighter packaging and label-free products.
2030
Grow low and no alcohol sales
Asahi Group says it wants non-alcohol and low-alcohol adult drinks to make up 20% of sales of major alcohol beverage products by 2030. It says this is part of its work on responsible drinking and on offering more choice to consumers. Low-alcohol drinks are defined in its material as drinks with no more than 3.5% alcohol.
2025
Use effective plastic materials
Asahi Group says it wants 100% of its plastic containers to use materials that can be effectively reused, recycled, composted, or thermally recycled by 2025. This target is part of its packaging plan called 3R+Innovation, which focuses on reducing, reusing, and recycling materials while also trying new packaging ideas.
