Ananas Anam Sustainability Actions

B Corp certified

Ananas Anam is a certified B-Corporation and works to the values of a circular economy, combining research and innovation to enhance the well-being of the earth and its people throughout the entire life cycle of the product. Being B-Corp certified means that we strive to do business better, balancing people, planet and profit. The B-Corp certification measures our efforts and verifies that we meet high social and environmental standards, from farm to factory.

Uses pineapple leaf fibre

Piñatex® is made from the leaves of the pineapple plant, the byproduct of the fruit industry, which are traditionally discarded or burned. Adding value to this waste has created a new source of income for farming communities who otherwise rely on a seasonal harvest. Once the fibre has been stripped from the leaf the leftover biomass can be retained to use as a natural fertiliser or bio-fuel, offering a further environmental prospect.

Supports farming communities

Ananas Anam supports rural farming communities by working directly with farming cooperatives to create an additional stream of income to pineapple farmers. We currently work with farming communities in the Philippines, and as we develop will have the opportunity to work with other pineapple growing countries, supporting local economies and strengthening their exports.

Low-impact material production

Piñatex® addresses these issues as a sustainably sourced textile, made from a natural waste product, created low water use and low production waste, containing no harmful chemicals or animal products. No additional environmental resources required for raw material. No chemicals on the Cradle2cradle list of banned substances used in production. Closed loop production – residual leaf biomass is used as natural fertilizer/biofuel. Non-woven mesh is biodegradable.

Transparent supply chain
