8th & Walton Sustainability Actions

Reported Walmart ESG commitments

Walmart strengthens ESG commitments. From renewable energy to associate financial well-being, Walmart continues to prioritize ESG initiatives that strengthen its communities and reinforce long-term sustainability.

Covered food additive removal

By January 2027, Walmart will eliminate synthetic dyes and 30 other additives across its private-label food products — including Great Value, Marketside, and Better Goods — in response to growing consumer demand for cleaner labels.

Highlighted food waste reduction

Aldi UK is rolling out Colleague Shops across the UK to give warehouse operations and office staff the chance to buy food products that can no longer be sold in stores. Part of the retailer’s work to reduce food waste, the scheme covers products that are still perfectly good to consume.

Discussed responsible sourcing

What does responsible sourcing across supply chains look like for some of the world’s biggest grocery retailers, and what are the challenges? From cocoa and dairy to palm oil and soy, Co-op, Lidl in Germany and ALDI Nord Group are constantly looking at ways to optimize how they source key ingredients and manage logistics, balancing cost, sustainability, and transparency.
